Review Beyond Tellerrand Berlin 2025

This was my third time at Beyond Tellerrand after Munich in 2018 and Düsseldorf in 2024, and once again it was an awesome experience (although this time there sadly was no Stefan Sagmeister on stage). :)

I took the chance to take my family with me to Berlin, because there is always something one can do around here. And if not, there is a LEGO store or something nearby. So, while they were busy exploring the city, I enjoyed the talks and the camaraderie at the event.

The highlights of day 1 for me were the talks of Thorsten Jonas about the impact design and the usage of tools (and AI) has on sustainability, the "performance" of Adam Argyle who created a great connection of Midi input and CSS output and Cabeza Papata, who talked about their success and the struggles connected with it. Having a short chat with the speakers, who are around and reachable during the whole conference, is a large plus as well.

Day 2 started with a blast with Andy Bell's talk about "soft skills" (a word he doesn't like it all) and their impact on code quality. Ana Rodrigues plugged the IndieWeb (yay!) and created some nice parallels between renovating a house and refactoring CSS code. After some really interesting insights on Burning Man (and its bureaucracy) from Jared Ficklin, the event ended on a high note with a (last minute) talk by Astrid Bin about finding an ancient font she fell in love with.

Once again, an awesome mix of topics, not many that technical, but you could feel the passion and the energy in all the talks and speakers. That's what I came for.

Apart from the talks, Marc and the crew once again managed to create that awesome Beyond Tellerrand atmosphere everybody enjoys. The conferences I'm usually attending are quite businessy, but here there is always this chilled vibe, there is always time for a quick chat and you will make some new friends along the way for sure.

When I leave after 2 days, I get a bit sad, but my head is full of new ideals and impulses to follow up on. And the ticket for Beyond Tellerrand Düsseldorf 2026 is already booked, so I'm already looking forward to my "BTconf fix" in a few months. See you there, it's going to be awesome!
