Review IndieWebCamp Düsseldorf 2026

The 10th IndieWebCamp Düsseldorf took place on April, 25th and 26th 2026. This was the first time I was attending the IndieWebCamp in Düsseldorf and I had a blast. Thanks to Sia from Sia Consulting, we had a great location to interact and collaborate in. Also, coffee, drinks and digital infrastructure were available to hack away.

Day 1

I arrived on Saturday morning by train together with Tilman and we made it just in time to the venue. After the introduction of all participants, remote and local, we started with the barcamp and discussed issues around private posts (i.e. how to post something to a public site and make sure the access is limited and in your control). Then followed a session lead by Daniel with some feed nerd talk (what issues are there in todays decentralized infrastructure and how to make feeds better discoverable) and I concluded the day at Dave's session about 'How to organize data'. We had a lively discussion at all talks, the recordings can be found on the IndieWeb wiki.

For lunch, we took over Space Burger right next to the venue, had awesome burgers and fries and enjoyed the nerdy place and the graphic style they used on their menus and on their website.

Yummy food at Zhangliang Malatang

After finishing day 1 of the camp, we headed out to a hotpot place (Zhangliang Malatang) and had some ice cream at Maximilians afterwards. And as most of the participants still had some energy left in them, there was room for some more great craft beer at the Holy Craft Beer Bar as well.

Day 2

The second day, Sunday, the day the Düsseldorf marathon took place, started at 10am with the Create Day. Everybody had some things in mind he wanted to work on. My agenda included fixing the Webmentions issues on my web site and properly format all webmentions. I also wanted to add some curation features, as I was inspired by the latest 'Own Your Web' newsletter Matthias Ott wrote just some days ago.

Notebook and coffee - let's go!

To speed up the lunch we decided to go to an empanada place (Hala Empanada) nearby, which worked out in theory, but in practice it still took some time. However, the food was really good and there was some time (although not enough) left to finish the tasks and demo our successes afterwards.

Everybody did their demoes, and it was really amazing to see what everybody created in such a short time. I got some great inspirations for further projects on my web site.

Final Thoughts

Thanks to all the nice people I had the pleasure to meet there.

The participants of IWC Düsseldorf 2026

Also a huge shoutout to the remote participants.

I missed someone for sure, sorry for that in advance!

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the camaraderie and I'm looking forward to IndieWebCamp Nürnberg really soon. I hope to see a lot of you there!

Thanks to Daniel Pietzsch for creating a feed list for the event. And make sure to also read the posts about the event from Dave and Paul (who also wrote something for his demo on Sunday).
